LIPS - 'Everything To Me'

New-ish tune from LIPS whom I know little about.

I do however know some of the names involved; I recently posted about Jeremy Toy's rad She's So Rad project, and he pops up here on the drums(?!)

This is a very sweet, lilting, slightly melancholic pop number. Crash Bandycamp strikes again!

I do dig.

DTMD - 'Makin' Dollas'

To be released on/around September 20th.

Looking forward to this one from the Maryland upstarts for sure! Their previous though limited releases have been really nice.

You can peep a free download of first single 'You' at Bandcamp.

Mo Kolours - 'Drum Talking' EP + FREE DL

Bandcamp strikes again!!!

Fresh in the inbox today, Mo Kolours debut EP 'Drum Talking'.
I posted a while back about his sneaky little Afro-tronic (did I just coin that phrase? ;) track 'Biddies'
From his Bandcamp blurb:

"Some records seem to come out of nowhere. Witness this debut EP by the half-Mauritian percussionist & singer Mo Kolours, which unites an array of more familiar influences with the Sega music of his island roots.

The rhythms lead the way here, whether the straight percussive workout of Drum Talking or the crafty vocal manipulation that drives the low-slung bump of Biddies, a song that traces an imaginary line between Theo Parrish and Gonjasufi.

Dead of Night mines the symbolism of The Beatles’ outwardly chirpy Blackbird while his own Bakiraq (like Burt, the songwriter) resembles a soul classic pieced together from fragments around the flickering light of a fire.

Features the first ever remix behind the connoisseur's edit label of choice: Truth Is Light."

A while back I posted about this new-comer's single 'Biddies'...

I tell you now, this new EP is the real deal. Beautiful African rhythms with dubbed-out bass lines ('Bakiraq') and sweet electronically programmed click-clap drums ('Drum Talking' - FREE DL), and the Dilla-like wobble lope of '8 Hours'.

If you're fast enough you can cop a pre-order of the limited first-run copies of the vinyl HERE.

Vanilla

Vanilla is a cat from the UK that I recently stumbled upon.

Check out his Bandcamp page with special DL focus on his v. nice LP, 'Chrometrails'.

Definitely some Dilla-sound going on here, but unlike a lot of imitators out there this guy can actually make a hot beat.

Check out this LOVELY beat using the classic Roy Ayers legendary 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' as sample material.

Knxwledge X 'Mango' EP

Head to Knxwledge's Bandcamp for the DL of this fleeting EP.

There are four tracks, three of which just breeze by with not too much of a shake-up for the world of music.

It's track three however that is the absolute stand-out...
'KeepÂșn' is a BOMB remix of Busta Rhymes' 'Ill Vibe' featuring Q-Tip.

Knxwledge laces the classic acapella with loping drunk-drums, bass pops, plucks and slaps, smooth Rhodes keys and a dirty analogue sound that has a great beat-tape kinda feel.

Shouts to Christoph' El Truento for the heads up!

Listen on repeat for 90's hip-hop warm fuzzies please.

Thanks.
