Georgia Anne Muldrow x Madlib - 'Seeds'

Stonesthrow Records label mates Georgia Anne Muldrow and Madlib have combined to create a full album together!

Significant for the fact that it is the first time that Muldrow has had anyone aside from partner Dudley Perkins produce one of her own records. Makes sense though because I have always thought of her as a bit like the female incarnation of the great Oxnard producer.

Peep the lead single from the collab 'Seeds' right HERE and head to Rolling Stone for the exclusive DL before release in mid-February.

Stones Throw Sweats - Winter 2012

I know it's summer down here in NZ, but there are one or two international readers right?
Check the lovely new sweats range for 2012 from my favourite record label Stones Throw.

Girls and boys cuts in grey/black speckle and classic grey marl crew necks and hoodies.
With the exchange rate looking real nice for us here, look into the future and see that you need one of these babies for your Winter wardrobe.

Freddie Gibbs x Madlib ( I call it Mad-Gib) - 'Thuggin'' EP

Sometimes I try and make mixtapes in a Madlib style but it just doesn't work.
Even if I set out to do a totally loose mix, my inner semi-perfectionist (I'm not completely pshyco) can't resist cleaning it up just a little.

So, I really admire the way that 'Lib just keeps putting out music with a hit & miss attitude.
He is so prolific that he seems to just put it out there which you could say is reflected in the way he treats his DJ sets.

You could argue that he might not be as focused as he was in the early to mid 00's when he put out his best works, but i'm really not that fussed. Although we're all hangin' for Madvilllainy 2!

Anyhow, here's his new shit with Freddie Gibbs...

M.E.D. - 'Classic' LP

Stones Throw Records (pretty much) resident rapper M.E.D bka Medaphoar has just released his latest LP 'Classic'.

MED - 'Classic' LP

MED is like Stones Throw Records' resident rapper.
The diversity that is the STR label's stable means that it is now far removed from the strictly 'hip-hop' label that it was in it's early days.

One thing about MED is that he almost always picks great beats, and on his latest to-be-released LP his selection is no exception; Alchemist, Karriem Riggins, Oh No and a whole swag of beats from 'in-house' producer, the legendary Madlib the Beatkonducta.

Set for release on November 1st (I have already entered it into my diary), hopes are high for a banger of a record.
If early release 12" 'Classic' b/w 'Where I'm From' and the vid for 'MEDical Card' are anything to go by, we should expect one of 2011's stronger rap records.

James Pants - 'James Pants'

Some of James Pants' work is freaky and fruity; at times hard to listen to...

Some of James Pants' work is quite simply A.M.A.Z.I.N.G...

... but overall his albums can be a little schizophrenic.

His new LP, simply titled 'James Pants' is the real deal. Killer!
Check out James getting his props in the big UK rag The Guardian right HERE in their 'New Band' column for the plebs. Yeah we been up on Pants for ages, man.

Head to your local i-Tunes store for a DL of some or all (go on, it's really good) of his newest chapter and check out some audio for his track 'Clouds Over the Pacific' below.

I love this string-plucked shit!

Mayer Hawthorne - 'Impressions' EP x FREE DL

Stones Throw Records'  Mayer Hawthorne has produced a six-track digital EP of  cover versions.

The 'Impressions' EP is a bunch of obscure tunes that he and his band The County have done over in their own style to present to you for a big whopping FREE!

Cop the DL and Mayer's blurb on each track HERE.

Karriem Riggins Podcast x Stones Throw Records at Hella International

When Dilla's crew was looking amongst themselves as to who was the best person for the job of completing the late-great's 'The Shining' LP, who did they turn to ultimately?

Karriem Riggins.

His mini-set for Stones Throw Records at Hella International 2008 is pure fire. Perfect for this oncoming lovely summer weather.

I have been back into this set in a big way of late after re-discovering it in my collection.

Most of the music here are his own productions; JAMS!!!

P.S. A LINK to his blog... Drummer for Diana Krall!

New Mayer Hawthorne x Classixx - 'No Strings'

That smooth kid Mayer Hawthorne is back with a new track!

Following on from his recent collab with hot-as-duck producer Nottz on slow-burner 'I Need You' on the legendary Stonesthrow Records; 'No Strings' comes produced by synth fiend duo Classixx who look after the instrumentation with fine results.

These two have collaborated once in the past also, on the brilliant 'Green Eyed Love' remix. One of favourite tracks, let alone remixes of the past year. Beautiful stuff.

Plus: Here's a nice interview with Mayer Hawthorne on Hypebeast.

Plus plus: While I'm at it, here is a DL of Classixx fruity 80's-type remix of Active Child's 'When Your Love Is Safe'.

Stones Throw Pop-up Store x Tokyo

If any of you have ever been to Tokyo you'll know that it is a seriously great shopping town.

Stones Throw Records is quite possibly my fave record label, and is super-classy in it's own right.

So, when Tokyo and Stones Throw combine to create an oh so hot right now pop-up store in the Harajuku district, you know you wanna be there.

Obviously there are some logistical and time/money constraints for most of us, so the next best thing is to live vicariously through the web-page and dream a little dream.

And while we're on Stones Throw, here is a link to the prolific Dam-Funk's latest free offering. Enjoy.

Fu/Zen 11th Birthday

Really excited about this party! Fu has been around for... well, it's self explanatory really, but I have the opportunity to knock the club over the head with a Stonesthrow Records set.

It is gonna be HEAVY, trust me.

MED x Madliberator - 'MEDical Card'

I have always repped Stonesthrow records hard, and will be dropping an all Stonesthrow artist set at the forthcoming Fu/Zen 11th Birthday party (more on this one in a minute).

M.E.D bka Medaphoar is one of the labels soldiers, always putting out super-solid rap tracks whilst the majority of the stable releases amazing fruity soul, funk, latin, freak-music.

Here is yet another example of how when him and label backbone Madlib connect, the results are generally WOW! Fantastic Madlib electro/funk beat and M.E.D's blunted gravelly raps.

This is for the smokers for sure!

PS The sample is (apparently) taken from '82 party groover 'So Fine' by Howard Johnson. ;)

Dam Funk X MC Eiht X Steve Arrington 12"

I met and interviewed Damon 'Dam Funk' earlier this year, cool cat, nice guy. He was talking about this record and more in our back an' forth funk banter. (I'll post up a file of the interview in the near future).

News about this soon come 12" on my favourite label Stonesthrow Records, leaves me excited to say the least.
Steve Arrington is a musician whose electro-funk jams I have admired for a minute, and little did I know he was the drummer for Slave, until Damon let me know! Very cool.

Enjoy the funky DL, and vinyl heads, keep ya eyes peeled for the wax coming soon!
