Myele Manzanza - 'One' LP + 'Absent' Single DL

Myele Mananza is of course the drummer for the dopest NZ band right now (in my humble opinion), Electric Wire Hustle.

He releases his debut LP 'One' upon the ears of the world on February 17th through Ever Waking Hour Records and has kindly put the second single up for download on Bandcamp.

The short version of 'Absent' features songstress Bella Kalolo on the mic and as you would expect from a jazz-minded stick-man the flavour is percussion proud and progressive.

"Absent' is the second single to be released from Myele's forthcoming album and features the beautiful BellKalolo who has also recently released her debut album 'Without The Paper'.

“Bella is a natural performer and talented vocalist with an amazing range. She is a joy to work with and one of my favourite vocalists to come out of NZ.” says Myele".

Electric Wire Hustle

EWH at Matakana Summer Sunday - Sunday January 29th, 2012

We caught Electric Wire Hustle at the Summer Sunday outdoor festival gig yesterday and as expected, they blew minds; well ours anyway.

Didn't really get to catch up with the boys, but saw Mara briefly earlier in the day and he mentioned that this was the last live gig where they were gonna play their current set.

Mean as, I can dig it!

They reminded me once again just why I love what they do as I could see, and feel the largely "mainstream" crowd get polarised around us by the EWH jazz break-downs and deep vibrations.

Suffice to say that Anna and I were having a fucking ball!

Favourite for the night, 'Waters' and that new one?! DAMNNN.

So, my belief is reaffirmed once more as I reacquaint myself (for the millionth time) with their 'Every Waking Hour' LP and look ahead to the sophomore release on which Dave 'Taay Ninh' Wright says: 'Tryin' to get this sucker finished bro - working on it!'.

Sam Champ - Remix EP Instro's

Sam Champs dope Remix EP from late 2010 had some of THE best remixes goin' round for this past year.

Understandably it was an underground/internet with track from it doing some serious play time on more discerning radio stations around the planet.

The king remix off it was probably his rework of D'Angelo's 'Left & Right'...

Well, now you can cop the remix instrumentals for some serious blend action.

@Peace is a local crew consisting headlined on the mic by Tom Scott from Homebrew with rhyme partner Lui Tuiasu.

A coming together of some great local talent including Christoph el' Truento on executive production, graf/artist crew Cut Collective on the spacious astrology cover art as well as Electric Wire Hustle's live engineer/fourth band member, Benny Tones doing the mastering.

If Homebrew's fantastic work sounds washed in beer and pills, then this is definately swathed in LSD and pot with Tom and Lui going for a more introspective feel on this one.

Beat production comes from Soul Chef, Influence, Miso Shiru/Brandon Haru, El' Truento, and Nothing To Nobody.

Summertime Rolls 2, January 3rd 2011

The flyer pretty much sums it up but I gotta' say I'm excited about the return of Summertime Rolls.

The first event on the same date in 2009 was killer! Open Souls headlined with a DJ line-up of some of my favourite DJ's; Cian, Dylan C., Manuel Bundy & Submariner.

So, we're putting the party on again with NZ's next big thing Electric Wire Hustle headlining plus support from good friends Kolab & Mikey Rockwell, Chef D. and the return of badman DJ's Manuel Bundy and Dylan C.

I might even spin some cassettes!

Tickets are pretty limited and last time the event sold out, so get into Conch Records in Ponsonby, Bloom Saloon in Matakana and the venue itself, The Leigh Sawmill Cafe.
